Dak Prescott Just Can’t Catch a Break, Out for 4-6 Weeks

If the phrase “I can’t catch a break” was a person, it's quite possible that person would be Dak Prescott. During the Dallas Cowboys 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dak Prescott ends up jamming his thumb on Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett. A short while later, Dak Prescott would take himself out of the game after he could no longer grip the ball after throwing a screen pass.

Dak Prescott Thumb Injury

Shortly after the game, Jerry Jones would give Cowboy fans and fantasy football players bad news. Dak Prescott underwent thumb surgery on Monday and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. For the second time in three years, Dak Prescott will miss a significant amount of time playing on the field. In 2020 Dak Prescott suffered his first major injury of his career in Week 5 against the New York Giants. In that game, Prescott was carried off of the field after suffering an ankle injury and would miss the rest of the season.

160 Million Dollar Record-breaking Contract

Prescott hasn't missed a game in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2021. Based on his stats during those seasons, there is no question he has proven himself worthy of the 4-year, 160 million dollar contract extension that he was granted. In 2016 Prescott only threw 4 interceptions and had a league-high QB rating of 104.9. In 2019 he threw 4,902 passing yards and had thrown 30 touchdowns. In 2021 Prescott would bounce back from the aforementioned 2020 injury by throwing 4,449 passing yards and 37 touchdowns.

The Cowboys had high hopes for the 2022 season in a conference that does not have any clear-cut Super Bowl contenders. However, Dak Prescott’s injury may have significantly dashed all hopes of that happening this season. Needless to say, the Cowboys chances of winning the NFC East have been negatively impacted as well. If all goes according to plan, Prescott may be back no later than Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers. Dak Prescott has faced adversity before and has come back stronger than ever. He has overcome adversity before and there is no reason to believe that he will not bounce back stronger than ever after this setback.
