Are Fitted Hats REALLY Expensive?

If you are like many average consumers, then fitted hats are not very expensive at all. In fact their price which ranges between $30 - $70 is pretty on-par with other hats in the industry, and thats including snapbacks, dad hats, bucket hats and even fedoras. However, if you are a hat collector or someone who purchases many fitted hats then yes it can become expensive. Five fitted hat purchases will cost you roughly around $250 (a little over that amount because of taxes, fees and shipping). If you think about it, fitted hats, specifically the 59FIFTY by New Era has been around for decades and the price increase hasn't been enormous.

Why Have Fitted Hats Price Increased?

Initiailly when fitted hats came out there were a range of colors and teams available but they were basic. Fitted hats during this time cost around $30. Fast forward and we start to see different color undervisors and even more colorways available for all of the sports teams. Fast forward again and fitted caps started showing up with embroideries on the right side of the crown, on the back and front. In fact most of the newly released fitted hats have a side patch embroidery which will obviously increase the price of the cap because more thread are required to create these caps. The cost of fitted hats then started reaching the $38.99 price range.Β

Fitted Hat Demand Has Increased

The average cost of fitted hats currently as of 2021 is between $38.99 - $41.99. This increased, is likely due to the high demand of people wanting to purchase fitted hats. The higher the demand is for a product the more likely the cost will rise to meet those demands. Fitted hats (specifically New Era 59FIFTY) has seen a 10x user interest within the last couple of years. The demand for fitted hats currently is at an all time high.Β

So in conclusion, if you are an average consumer that purchases a fitted hat every now and then to support your favorite sports team its not any more expensive than any other hat that available. On the other hand if you purchase fitted hats frequently or are a hat collector, it can be an expensive hobby. As with all collectibles you have to decide whether this hobby is something you really enjoy and can sustain.
